Available exclusively at Walmart, Seagate’s new Photodrive offers three year complimentary Mylio Create Plan

BELLEVUE, WA. – May 11, 2020:  Mylio, a photo organizer app that manages digital clutter across devices, announced today that, for a limited time, the purchase of a Seagate PhotoDrive backup device will include a complimentary, three-year Mylio Create Plan. Valued at $150, the plan includes automatic multi-device syncing for up to 50,000 photos, premium editing features, and cloud-optional backup storage. The Seagate PhotoDrive with the Mylio Create plan is available only at Walmart beginning on May 16th, 2020 in most stores.

“We are thrilled to offer the complimentary Mylio Create subscription to customers who purchase Seagate’s PhotoDrive,” said Jeff Fochtman, Seagate’s Vice President of Global Marketing and Consumer Solutions. “Now, it will be easier than ever for our users to organize and curate their photo collections while de-cluttering their digital life across all devices.”

In the past year, Mylio has experienced exponential, 7x year-over-year user growth (2019-2020). This is primarily attributed to three factors: Mylio’s expanded visibility efforts, including its offerings with Seagate; refinements of the app; and marketplace changes.

According to Mylio CEO David Vaskevitch, “In 2019 Mylio debuted online advertising, PR and social media, launched its first offering with Seagate, and an affiliate program. We also simplified the app, making Mylio more appealing to a broader base of consumers.”

Since Mylio was introduced, the photo management landscape has dramatically changed. Specialty solutions like Aperture, Picasa, PikNik, iPhoto, and others are gone, leaving a sizable void in the middle of the market. People who take a lot of photos need a way to organize and preserve them, and for non-photography professionals, Mylio is the last app standing.

Vaskevitch added, “These market changes opened the door for Mylio to provide an advanced solution across the entire photo organization and management journey—from importing and storing, organizing and searching, to editing, experiencing and sharing photos. Our expanded relationship with Seagate and availability in Walmart will help us introduce Mylio to more consumers seeking a complete photo organization and management solution.”

Mylio Offers Former Apple Aperture Photo App Users a Powerful Alternative and Limited Time “Independence Day” Offer

BELLEVUE, WA. – May 6, 2019:  Mylio, creator of the simple way to automatically organize, edit, store, and sync your life photos across devices, today announced a limited time offer and powerful alternative for users of the discontinued Apple Aperture photo editor. Mylio offers a free application that supports direct import of the Aperture library while preserving all the ratings, edits, and organization previously performed on Aperture. Mylio is also offering Aperture users an “Independence Day” offer that includes a 20% discount for life when they migrate to a premium Mylio plan by July 4th, 2019.

With the April 30th announcement that Aperture will no longer be supported on future Apple operating systems, users need a painless transition path that maintains as much of the work they have invested in their library as possible. Mylio addresses this with an Aperture import tool that preserves ratings, edits and file structure users have spent countless hours organizing. Once migrated, Mylio provides users with exciting new features that address frustrations faced by professional and everyday photographers. These include:

  • Freedom: Seamless photo replication across devices enables users to access, share and work with their entire library on Mac, iOS and Android phones, tablets, and Windows PC’s. For Apple users, this means that your iPad and iPhone become full-functionality partners working seamlessly with your Mac.
  • Independence: Because photo libraries are automatically managed across multiple devices photographers can edit, organize and manage photos while traveling. This work automatically syncs with your other devices wherever they are located.
  • Ease-of-Use Features: In addition to the rich rating system, folders and keywords available in Aperture, Mylio adds face recognition, geotag based maps, and a Life Calendar™ that allows users to organize a lifetime of memories to alleviate searching and hunting for photos across phones, tablets, and computers.
  • Security: Mylio uniquely automates the process of keeping all photo media safe. Users have the choice of adding one or more cloud services at any time or implementing protection locally. The Mylio Create Plan includes a special offer with any of these Seagate Backup Plus devices.

Mylio CEO David Vaskevitch explained how Mylio wants to help the Aperture community: “We respect the way Aperture blazed a trail and created a foundation that we could innovate on. We also understand the work that goes into creating a curated and organized photo library. For these reasons we are happy that we can provide two immediate solutions for Aperture users: a painless and largely automatic migration path forward, and a modern platform for working with photos across devices that provides the device freedom and independence casual and professional photographers are seeking.”

About Mylio

Ground-Breaking, Personal Mesh Network Startup Mylio Announces Joint Venture + R&D Facility in China

Agreement leverages the large, mobile-centric Chinese market to develop and test technologies to help consumers manage and protect digital files

BELLEVUE, WA. – April 5, 2017:  Mylio, developer of the world’s first internet file system over a personal mesh network offerings, including the photo organizing app that Outdoor Photographer said “may change your life,” has secured funding that will propel the expansion of more privacy-centric offerings, and is poised to shake up the options consumers have for guarding and protecting their digital files. The $25 million cash infusion, secured through a joint-venture agreement with China Everbright, Ltd., will fuel the development of new products. Everbright will also serve as a distribution partner, opening the door for Mylio to use the large, engaged, mobile-centric Chinese market as a test bed for continued innovation.

The Mylio platform is the first internet file system over a personal mesh network platform in the world. The Mylio photo app – the first to run on the company’s platform – has paved the way for additional applications that will provide a new choice for consumers who value privacy, and control over their digital files. Mylio founder and CEO David Vaskevitch, says “The infrastructure we’ve built for mesh network syncing includes multi-device replication, communication, and facial recognition. It also includes an artificial intelligence (AI) system that will be foundational to a multitude of new apps. We’re excited to explore these ideas with strategic, well-positioned partners like China Everbright, who can provide Mylio with the market scale to rapidly acid test new ideas. The size of the Chinese mainland market, we believe, will add rocket fuel to our innovations.”

As part of the agreement, a Mylio R&D facility will be set up in the Hengqin New Area, one of the most recent Special Economic Zones created by the Chinese government for international collaboration and innovation. This facility will be used to develop new AI and machine learning products specific to Hengqin, as well as extend the Mylio platform and  app to the Chinese mainland market.

Artificial Intelligence and the Rise of a New Silicon Valley

The Chinese government has announced plans to be the world leader in AI technologies, with Hengqin as the hub — a Sino-version of Silicon Valley. Just as China’s first Special Economic Zone – Shenzhen – is known as a global center for tech manufacturing (notably for Apple), Henqin will specialize in software, with Mylio as its first development partner.

Mylio was selected because of its thought leadership, and head start in personal, distributed computing – the opposite of centralized, cloud computing. Cloud services like Office and Creative Cloud were designed for personal computers. However, while 1.3 billion people today have computers, 5.4 billion have mobile phones, each effectively a pocket supercomputer. Mylio is betting that the next chapter in computing will include simple, powerful productivity tools that work equally well on desktops and mobile devices, without the need for cloud storage – using instead a personal, secure and private mesh network, like the Mylio photo app does today. Because the AI systems used for face and object recognition on the Mylio photo app run on the device—instead of the cloud — users also benefit from increased convenience, speed, and efficiency.

As China is a mobile-native country, this strategic partnership positions Mylio on the ground floor for testing and bringing to market the very first globally-accessible, mobile-native products for creating and organizing files.

The Mylio platform and photo app can be downloaded at mylio.com, through the Apple App Store, or Android Play Store. The Mylio photo app supports personal computers running OSX 10.9 or later, Windows 7 SP1 or later, iPads, iPhones and iPod Touch running iOS 7 or later, and Android tablets and phones running KitKat 4.4 or later.

About Mylio

Privately-held Mylio, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, was founded in 2012 by former Microsoft CTO David Vaskevitch, to pioneer the development of private, personal mesh networks, which protect personal privacy by making an internet or cloud connection completely optional. The company’s first mesh network offering is the Mylio photo app, a multi-device, peer-to-peer, platform-agnostic tool to organize, manage, and protect digital photos and other files.

Mylio, the Photo Organizing App That Helps You Protect your Precious Digital Memories from Disaster, Introduces Bring-Your-Own-Cloud Backup

Cross-platform app for helping consumers organize and protect their photo libraries expands consumer choice, security, and privacy

BELLEVUE, WA. – September 22, 2016  Mylio, the photo organizing app of which Shutterbug Magazine said “I’ve got the feeling that you, like me, will quickly become hooked,” announces the first of its Bring-Your-Own-Cloud file backup options. “From the beginning, providing an automatic, painless way of keeping all your pictures safe has been a key value for us here at Mylio,” says Mylio founder David Vaskevitch. “And we do that very, very well. Now, we’re expanding our protection functionality so that Mylio will store a copy of your originals in the cloud store of your choice, then keep them synced as you add more.”

Mylio’s first offering will be Amazon Drive, which provides unlimited photo and video storage for $60/year. Providers for additional cloud service options will be released in the coming months. This feature is an option for users of the premium version of Mylio.

Choice, Security, and Privacy

Directly linked to Mylio’s mission of keeping your pictures safe is its orientation to choice and privacy: unlike big, corporate photo storage solutions, Mylio doesn’t lock consumers into proprietary services, nor does it mine data from its users’ files.  Mylio is a peer-to-peer organization system by default, which means your photos never leave your own, private devices. In keeping with these values of choice and privacy, Mylio’s new Bring-Your-Own-Cloud solution not only lets you choose whether to back up your files to the cloud, it will ultimately let you choose which cloud to back up to, and it will also encrypt the files you store and sync there.

There are three benefits to users who choose to set up Mylio like this:

  1. Protection. Even if all your computers, tablets, phones, and disks are lost or destroyed, your pictures will still be safe, and can be restored when you get new hardware.
  2. Access. If you’re travelling and need access to originals (or even previews), as long as you have an internet connection, Mylio can pull them down from the cloud.
  3. Replication hub. Today, at least two Mylio devices – phone, tablet, or computer – must be turned on and running so that they can replicate each other. But once your pictures are in the cloud, any Mylio-enabled device will bring itself up to date by talking to the cloud.

Mylio can be downloaded at mylio.com, or through the Apple iOS or Android app stores. Mylio supports personal computers running OSX 10.9 or later, Windows 7 SP1 or later, iPads, iPhones and iPod Touch running iOS 7 or later, and Android tablets and phones running KitKat 4.4 or later.

The Luminous Endowment Announces the Latest Mylio Grant Winner

Ana V. Ramirez wins with photography series The Things We Leave Behind

BELLEVUE, WA. – September 15, The Luminous Endowment for Photographers has announced the August 2016 winner of The Mylio Grant, Ana V. Ramirez, with her series of photographs entitled The Things We Leave Behind. This grant is one of the ways in which Mylio works to support the preservation of digital memories. The $2,500 grant is awarded twice annually to artists dedicated to preserving images and memories important to a life, or to telling the true stories of that life in pictures.

“Mylio is proud to support developing photographers preserving important memories,” explains David Vaskevitch, Founder and CEO of Mylio, and champion of The Mylio Grant.

This series is Ramirez’ ordered and emotional exploration of objects her mother left her when she passed away. Each cleanly organized still life is an exploration of personal history and a cathartic expression of overcoming grief.

“This award is going to give me time… I can afford to focus more on my creative work. I plan to use some of it to publish a book with photographs and stories. I’ll also upgrade my computer, so I can work more quickly,” says Ramirez.

Mylio v1.9 - Calendar View (Tablet)

Mylio Introduces a Powerful First: Life Calendar™

Cross-platform app for organizing and protecting photos now displays digital memories the way we lived them: as events on the calendar of our lives

BELLEVUE, WA. – August 3 Mylio, the photo organizing app that Outdoor Photographer said “may change your life,” now offers the first-ever Life Calendar™, a way of visually mapping your memories in a simple, intuitive way. “From the beginning, our mission has been to change the way the world remembers,” says Mylio founder David Vaskevitch, “and this is a quantum leap in that direction. The simple power of seeing the tapestry of a life laid out like this is hard to overstate. It brings people up short.”

The Life Calendar™ feature expands on Mylio’s existing calendar view, which automatically slots photos on the days on which they happened. Now, you can group these memories in custom time windows (from brief – like a romantic evening – to long, like college years), then label, and color-code them. The result: an at-a-glance life mosaic, viewable by day, week, month, year, decade, or beyond. You can even enter future events before they happen, and they’ll be populated with your images when they arrive.

Choice, Control, and…Time Travel?

Most of our memories are related to different areas of our life like Family, Travel, and Work. The Life Calendar™ gives you the option to group the events you add into categories like these, and prioritize the events you care about most. This flexibility allows for fun, too: we’ve seen people populate calendars with things like Dr. Who incarnations, or James Bond movies over the decades.

There are three benefits to people who set up their Life Calendar™:

  1. Speed. The thing that most consistently raises eyebrows about the calendar in Mylio is what we call the party test: a memory – decades old, say — comes up in conversation; you pull out your smart phone, and within seconds you’re showing and telling.
  2. Power. Scrolling through a Life Calendar™ – especially with people who are part of it – has a heart impact that’s hard to describe, and best experienced. Zoom in, zoom out; suddenly, you’re a time traveler.
  3. Integration. We’re no psychologists, but seeing a life story in its full span, chapter by chapter – potentially over generations – has its own special benefits. Not least among them: the ability to easily share your true stories with loved ones.

Mylio can be downloaded for free at mylio.com, or through the Apple iOS or Android app stores. Mylio supports personal computers running OSX 10.9 or later, Windows 7 SP1 or later, iPads, iPhones and iPod Touch running iOS 7 or later, and Android tablets and phones running KitKat 4.4 or later.
